Fäden und mehr….Threads and more

With the new year well underway, it’s time to take a look at last year’s goals. Looking at my notes I can already see a theme running through it.

Weaving:

By the time I set my goals last year, I had one project waiting in the wings. I suppose it was the Bath Towels. It was a fun project and I learned new things, which is always a good thing.

I was a little surprised to realise, though, that apparently, I only completed one other weaving project over the course of the year, report to follow.

I had put playing with double weave on my list but didn’t get around to any of my chosen projects. It’s definitely something that will stay on the agenda moving forward.

Spinning:

I went into the year with the ambition to spin at least 15 min a day. That resolution got abandoned fairly early in the year, but I did return to it towards the end of the year. I recently realised that even with sticking to it, it takes longer to make progress than I thought. I guess it will slow some projects down which rely on hand-spun yarn to get off the ground.

I didn’t fair much better with the still unprocessed wool so that’s another thing that will stay on the agenda. The main obstacle on that front, besides finding the time, is getting the wool dry. It takes a long time and I only have limited space to spread it out.

Knitting & crotchet:

Well, this is an interesting category. It seems I didn’t do any of the things I set out to do and yet made more progress than on anything else.

I intended to focus on patterns and how they work, but didn’t do anything in that field until the advent calendar (report to follow). I did finish a rather ambitious project though, which will be coming up soon.

I recently put socks back on the agenda, which will be one of the things I intend to work on this year.

I meant to get into crocheting but never found the time to go through the book I got. So it’s only natural to dive into an ambitious crotchet project with only a limited idea of what I am doing, right?

Summing up:

So, looking over the list of achieved goals, one could think the year was a complete failure. It looks more like a list of goals missed than anything else.

But does it feel like wasted time?

Actually, no. I did get to do a lot of fun things and finished some objects that I am rather proud of. I learned new things every step of the way, and that’s the goal that truly matters to me.

So I’ll set this as my goal for the year. Have fun and learn new things. I’ll be curious to see where this journey takes me.
